Oh lovely, a RRoD (update)

This is just great. Yesterday, in a weekend I need the thing the most, my Xbox 360 decided to show the Red Ring of Death. I do not know how Microsoft's Customer Support has evolved since last year, but I have found reports posted in summer 2007 of Xboxes being in repair for several weeks. So, apart from not having my favourite distraction for this weekend, I risk missing out on Fallout 3's launch day.

I guess that the only thing I can do is call Customer Support and get myself a box or sticker or whatever is needed to ship my game console back for repair. Well... at least it is free. A few months later and I would have had to pay for a brand new one.

Update: Hurray, the device is back. In fact, it has been back for almost a week now. And guess what? I got it right on Fallout 3's launch date :D. In total, the console was away for about ten days (give or take), and all expenses were paid by Microsoft. I even got a Xbox Live Gold membership for a month.

Aww, I hope your console gets fixed soon.
By the way, was it a Falcon or not?

Hey don't worry, I got my Xbox back in 5 days. And you can sign up your xbox online and print out a sticker so you don't even have to wait for that.

(Xbox support has been greatly improved, my Xbox was actually made in the weekend an brought back to me on monday, also DHL comes to your home to pick up the xbox)

@ roy-t

You can say what you want about Microsoft, but that's what I call service! It's no obligation to pick up your xbox :)

@painkill

By T.net user dna-ghost, Sunday 19 October 2008 17:40

There is another solution to fixing the rrod problem. Google :P

By T.net user painkill, Sunday 19 October 2008 19:46

By T.net user dna-ghost, Sunday 19 October 2008 21:23

By T.net user sebastius, Sunday 19 October 2008 22:12

By T.net user dna-ghost, Sunday 19 October 2008 22:29

By T.net user painkill, Monday 20 October 2008 00:27

They are verry fast with replacing your Xbox. That's the experience of a friend of mine ;)

By T.net user sebastius, Monday 20 October 2008 11:30

"Several weeks" lijkt me dus wel ietsje overroepen :p

By T.net user Ghost, Monday 20 October 2008 21:20

Right, my console is all boxed up, waiting for UPS to collect it tomorrow afternoon. I have to say, I am quite pleased with Microsofts support so far. All expenses paid, quite a charming girl answering my questions about packaging and using a lenient delivery company (UPS, in my case).

Let's see how it all plays out eventually. I am glad to hear support has been improved over the last months. And I might be able to play Fallout on launch day after all.

@MALEADt: I do not think I had a Falcon. My case stems from January 2006, while Falcons started shipping in summer 2007.

@Most of the others: My Xbox is not modded, as some have deducted. I agree with sebastius that, when looking properly, you can get games for acceptable prices, so I never felt the need for a chip. Although, I am disappointed I cannot backup my games easily. I hope that the Fall 2008 update let me use the dvd's less intensely.

nice to read u have it back :D

By T.net user MaNDaRK, Thursday 06 November 2008 08:56

What can i say? Happy gaming! And great service of Microsoft :)

Did you get your console back or a new one?

By T.net user Ghost, Thursday 06 November 2008 09:17

According to the repair sheet I have received with the console, they have replaced both the motherboard and my disk drive (I did not even know the latter was defective...). Since the serial number on the casing appears to be the same and my warranty is only shifted by one month, my guess is I have got my original console back. As far as I can speak of my 'original' console, considering the replacement of those two major components :P.
